Project: Rear Extension for Victorian Terrace

Status: Planning

The renovation and extension of this Victorian terrace, sitting on a corner plot a couple of hundred meters from the waves of Tynemouth Bay, centered around the clients love of surfing.

Creating a practical, utilitarian kitchen extension that prioritised the back door as the 'beach access'. With a shower for hosing down surfboards, wetsuits and dogs, inspired by the showers of Velodrome in Roubaix.

A concrete partition wall separates the utilities from the main kitchen. As the kitchen moves into the main living area of the house, the floor finish switches from tiles to solid wood flooring, giving a subtle threshold between the different zones.

The client's brief included a desire to draw inspiration from the Roubaix Velodrome Showers. Brutalist, concrete forms that divide the spaces into their designated sections.
